As you may already know Roswell experienced historic flooding over the weekend and many of those planning on attending the conference had planned to go through Roswell on their way to Carlsbad. Carlsbad has not experienced flooding but the routes to it may have been compromised. The bridge on 285 has seen significant damage. See below for the notice from New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) on 285.

Closure, US 285 at mile marker 88, 13 miles south of Midway.

    Closure

Motorists please be advised northbound and southbound lanes on US 285 at mm 88 (south of Midway) is closed due to bridge damage from flooding. Detours and signage have been set up. Southbound traffic is to detour off Ojibwa Road to NM 2 (Old Dexter Hwy). Northbound traffic is to detour off Ottawa Road and following signage to NM 2 (Old Dexter Hwy). Please use caution, reduce speed, and do not attempt to cross high water

I urge that everyone puts safety first when traveling and follow NMDOT guidance. Please check the NMDOT’s website on the roads frequently: www.nmroads.com
