JOB TITLE: Librarian
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

SUPERVISOR: Library Manager or Assistant Library Manager


Position Summary:
Under general supervision of the Library Manager or Assistant Library Manager, oversees the operations of one or more specialty library services, and performs a range of complex and specialized library tasks requiring a high level of professional expertise, supervisory proficiency, and customer service skills. Provides guidance, leadership, and coordination to library services staff in public and technical services areas. Participates in the development of operating policies and procedures, systems to maintain records, and quality standards. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

Minimum Qualifications for Librarian:
· Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
· Four years’ library experience.
· If primary task includes Youth Services, must successfully complete a thorough background investigation.

Preferred Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Library Science and Library and Information Science or related field.
· Experience working with vendors, managing facilities, developing programs and events.
· Experience in building and leading teams.
· Experience with developing collections in a public library.
· Valid New Mexico driver’s license.

The Los Alamos Public Library is seeking a detail-oriented and service-driven Operations Librarian to join our Technical Services and Operations team. This supervisory position plays a vital role in overseeing materials management, providing exceptional internal and public-facing customer service, and supporting the library’s self-checkout kiosks and outdoor locker systems. The Operations Librarian also contributes to readers’ advisory services and ensures seamless coordination across departments to enhance the overall library experience.

We are seeking a candidate with proven supervisory experience, strong project management capabilities, experience working with administration of Integrated Library Systems (ILS), and report building, as well as experience in the curation and development of library collections.

Key Responsibilities:
·Oversee daily operations related to materials management, including processing, circulation logistics, and inventory control.
·Supervise and support Operations team staff, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback.
·Manage and troubleshoot self-checkout kiosks and outdoor locker systems, coordinating with vendors and IT as needed.
·Deliver Readers’ Advisory services to patrons, supporting their discovery and engagement with library collections.
·Utilize integrated library systems (ILS), databases, and other software tools for system administration, data analysis, and reporting.
·Create and maintain custom reports to support library operations and decision-making.
·Writing and maintaining procedures.
·Collaborate across departments to support cross-functional projects, service improvements, and strategic initiatives.
·Ensure compliance with library policies and procedures while promoting a culture of service, collaboration, and accountability.
·Serve as head of a collection development team; keep abreast of current trends and public interest to curate assigned collection.
·Schedule is Sunday – Thursday and serves in role of Person-In-Charge on Sundays.
