The Scholarly Communications Librarian will enhance the visibility and impact of scholarly research. This role primarily involves leading initiatives on scholarly communication, advocating for ethical publishing practices, recommending technological solutions, and working closely with HSLIC team members to integrate and elevate research services. The ideal candidate will bring expertise and curiosity in scholarly communication tools, demonstrate excellent communication skills, and possess a strong analytical ability to navigate and influence the scholarly publishing landscape. This is a full-time, benefits eligible faculty position with a primary appointment in HSLIC. The UNM provides a diversified package of benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Appointment is posted as open rank, to be determined based on qualifications. Salary range: $61,380-$75,210.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads, develops, and implements comprehensive scholarly communication strategies that enhance the visibility and accessibility of research outputs.
  • Actively participates in relevant committees and working groups within and beyond the institution to advocate for open science, open access, open data, and open educational resources.
  • Evaluates and recommends technological solutions and infrastructure improvements that support the management and sharing of research outputs openly and effectively.
  • Collaborates with HSLIC colleagues in the development and maintenance of digital collections and repositories that support the academic community.
  • Initiates and maintains strong partnerships with academic departments, research centers, and other campus units.
  • Develops and leads educational opportunities for the UNM Health Sciences Center on scholarly communication topics such as publishing strategies, copyright and the use of digital tools in scholarly workflows.
  • Participates in and supports research impact initiatives to help UNM Health Sciences Center faculty discover, track and communicate the impact of various research outputs, including scholarly articles and shared data.
  • Provides consultations and training for best practices in tracking and communicating the impact of research, such as use of ORCID and other impact metrics tools.
  • Stays informed of national and international scholarly communications trends, policy changes, and academic research in scholarly publishing, ensuring that HSLIC colleagues and users are updated on the latest developments.
  • Participates in faculty activities including librarianship, education, research, publishing, presenting at professional conferences, and providing service.
  • Other duties may also be assigned.

Qualifications:

Required/Minimum:

·       Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited (or foreign equivalent) program.

·       At least 2 years of professional experience working in an academic, research, or health sciences library.

·       Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S.

·       Demonstrated knowledge of scholarly communication practices and supporting technologies.

Preferred:

  • Experience performing similar responsibilities, developing and/or participating in scholarly communication initiatives.
  • Experience using and supporting digital scholarly tools and platforms, including the selection and implementation of these technologies to enhance research and scholarly communication.
  • Experience assisting faculty in discovering, tracking, and communicating the impact of diverse research outputs such as scholarly articles, data sharing, and open access.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects while fostering positive, productive collaborations with faculty, researchers, students, and fellow librarians inspiring others towards achieving shared goals.
  • Strong innovative problem-solver who looks for creative solutions and experiments with new approaches to enhance scholarly communication.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including creating and delivering presentations.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
