Position Summary
The library clerk is a paraprofessional who performs many support activities in the successful operation of the academic library. The Library Clerk will assist with technical and user services and work on special projects as the library director assigns. The incumbent in this position will work under the direct supervision of the Library Director.
Duties & Responsibilities
Maintain library operations in the director's or other senior staff's absence, including:
Opening and closing the facility and supervising student workers, ensuring they are familiar with library policies, practices, and procedures.
Perform routine circulation tasks, including checking library materials in and out, recording fees, book repair, and other tasks necessary to ensure the efficient maintenance of circulating library materials.
Serve as point person for regular book shelving and assist with collection maintenance.
Serve as point person for print serials, physical media, and government documents, including retention, record maintenance, and shelving.
Serve as the point person for room reservations.
Answer general questions about library guidelines and procedures to promote library services, programs, and materials.
Assist library patrons in using computers, equipment, and materials.
Address and resolve complaints from patrons and/or staff, or forward to the supervisor or senior library staff member, as necessary.
Report and log technical issues to the IT and facilities departments.
Stock and maintain library supplies such as printers and cleaning supplies.
Keep relevant statistical records on library usage.
Assisted in maintaining cooperative and friendly learning, studying, and collaboration environment inside the library facility.
Available for a minimum of one late evening shift per week.
Perform any related duties that the director or senior staff may assign.
Minimum Requirements
An Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in any subject AND one year of related work experience, which may include any combination of the following: working in a bookstore or library, with collections in a museum or educational setting; computerized research online or using databases; teaching or training experience; troubleshooting hardware and software.
Preferred
An Associate’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in any subject. Three years of related work experience at an academic, public, or school library.
Physical Demands
Standing for extended periods.
Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 30 lbs. frequently.
Bending, reaching, reaching overhead, stooping, and kneeling.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a typical office environment.
