SUMMARY

The Reference Librarian shall report to the Director of Library Services. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist students, faculty, staff, and community patrons with information resources and research.
  •  Maintain library technology; update library webpages; troubleshoot and update patron and staff computers; resolve subscription database issues; assist computer services staff with library network as needed. 
  •  Perform reference desk functions. 
  •  Develop, schedule, and conduct library bibliographic instruction sessions, and general Library information presentations. 
  •  Develop and maintain resource guides utilizing Springhare LibGuides platform software. 
  •  Track and compile electronic resource usage statistics for subscription evaluation and required state, federal, and library association reports. 
  •  Evaluate library holdings; make recommendations for acquisition and withdrawal of materials. 
  •  Collaborate with faculty to coordinate the acquisition of appropriate library resources to support curriculum and programs. 
  •  Oversee library email account; answer reference questions and process material/service requests.
  • Assist in maintaining and developing new content for the library website. 
  •  Assist with library print book and electronic resource acquisitions. 
  •  Perform circulation desk functions. 
  •  Assist with Integrated Library System (ILS). 
  •  Participate in promotion/marketing of library resources and services to the College community. 
  •  Keep current with modifications to library and College policies and procedures; attend training as required to adjust to changes. 
  •  Participate in College committees and councils and attend meetings as required. 
  •  Participate in professional development; attend training sessions and conferences as required. Work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as needed. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required. 
  •  Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various College activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College. 

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution. 
  • Three (3) years of experience in a library environment, preferably with technical and research experience, OR an equivalent combination of required Library/Information Science degree, training, and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of academic databases, e-journals, eBooks, and related research methods. 
  •  Knowledge of the operation of Integrated Library Systems. 
  • Knowledge of website platform software. 
  • Knowledge of Springhare LibGuides platform software and LibApps applications. 
  • Knowledge of library and College policies and procedures. 
  • Knowledge of the Library of Congress (LC) Classification System. 
  • Knowledge of FERPA policies and procedures. 
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. 
  • Skill in troubleshooting and managing software. 
  • Ability to provide reference services and bibliographic instruction. 
  • Ability to demonstrate effective planning, organizational, and teaching skills. 
  • Ability to effectively utilize website platform software and electronic resource guide software. 
  • Ability to interpret library resource usage statistics and generate required reports. 
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty on bibliographic instruction and collection development. 
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate patron information needs. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Ability to proficiently operate a personal computer. 
  • Ability to provide effective supervision and assistance to library staff. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information. 
  • Ability to implement operational policies and procedures. 
  • Ability to work individually and as a team member. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as needed. 

Additional Qualifications

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Additional Information

This is a twelve-month exempt position. Standard benefits apply. The full pay range for this position is $57,145.00 to $83,250.00
