SUMMARY

The New Mexico Museum of Art houses over 20,000 pieces of art primarily focused on artists or artworks of New Mexico. Mediums vary including paintings on canvas, a large collection of historic and contemporary photographs, an assortment of works on paper from block prints and etchings to watercolor and drawings, a variety of sculptural media, and a small collection of textiles.

The Library and Archives internship will concentrate on the archives at the New Mexico Museum of Art, specifically, digitizing document collections and audio visual formats for preservation and access. This internship will help one build their knowledge of archival best practices, the life cycle of digital preservation, and the care and handling of documents. The Library and Archives intern will work with a variety of file formats and metadata creation as well as born digital records. Qualified candidates will have an interest in information management and experience in a library or archives setting.

DESIRED OUTCOMES

Learning goals for the internship include:

-Conduct research related to the Museum Archives
-The intern will gain hands-on experience with archival and library best practices
- Learn about digitizing collections for preservation and access
-The intern will have an opportunity to network with other professionals in the field

Ideal Candidate:

Coursework in Library Science, Museum Studies, Art History, Fine Arts, Art Education or History.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university OR completion of at least four semesters (or equivalent) at an accredited college or university within the last two (2) years.
