SUMMARY
The New Mexico Museum of Art houses over 20,000 pieces of art primarily focused on artists or artworks of New Mexico. Mediums vary including paintings on canvas, a large collection of historic and contemporary photographs, an assortment of works on paper from block prints and etchings to watercolor and drawings, a variety of sculptural media, and a small collection of textiles.
The NMMA Collections team is looking forward to fostering relationships with local students and institutions. Art is for everyone, and we want to make our collection as accessible as possible especially to local students aspiring to a career in the museum field. The Collections Internship is for undergraduate students seeking to fulfill credit requirements or curious about a career in the arts, and will be full time for 10 weeks. NMMA is looking for an intern to help the collections team process new accessions which includes labeling, photographing, and condition reporting artworks, completing data entry for each item in our museum's digital database (TMS), and housing the artworks in a safe manner. The intern will learn basic collections care and management skills including art handling, processing new acquisitions, and maintaining a well-organized and clean Collections.
DESIRED OUTCOMES
The Collections Intern will assist with the inventorying, packing, labeling and shelving of artworks. This experience will provide the intern a
well rounded knowledge of what working in museum collections is like.

Ideal Candidate:
Coursework in Museum Studies, Art History, Fine Arts, Applied Arts or History.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university OR completion of at least four semesters (or equivalent) at an accredited college or university within the last two (2) years.
