Ghost Ranch, a non-profit Presbyterian education and retreat center near Abiquiu, is seeking a volunteer librarian.
This person will serve for at least three to six months. In exchange for free lodging and meals, he or she will work independently for 40 hours a week. Duties will include:
*Selection, purchase, cataloging and processing of all library materials.
*Regular thinning of the collection based on established criteria.
*Gathering, analyzing and reporting monthly statistics.
*Review of all donations to determine appropriateness based on content and age.
*Manage book sales to include financial accounting.
*Maintain the overall cleanliness and orderliness of the library.
*Checking in and shelving all library materials.
*Maintaining displays, dusting, vacuuming and sweeping both inside and outside the library building.
1) The librarian may train and supervise summer student interns and other library volunteers assigned to special projects.
2) The librarian will support the curriculum needs of Jan Term and other classes offered at Ghost Ranch.
3) The librarian may be assigned special library projects
4) On a limited basis, the librarian may assist at the Ghost Ranch museum and the archives.
The library, located in a historic building on the ranch, has 12,000 books, DVDs, magazines and reference volumes, a children’s room and more.
This position will begin April 1.
Ghost Ranch is in a rural area 65 miles northwest of Santa Fe. It has no television, no nearby Walmart and limited cell phone service, but it has spectacular stars, irresistible hiking trails, adventurous guests and a tight-knit community of 15-20 volunteers from all over the country. No pets are allowed.
